JOHN LENNON’S PROTEST

John Lennon (1940–1980) was an English musician, singer, and songwriter. He was also a peace activist who achieved worldwide fame.

JOHN LENNON returned his medal to protest the genocide in Biafra (1969). Lennon was honoured by Queen Elizabeth II in 1965 with the

award of Member of the Order of the British Empire.

1n 1969, as a protest against Britain's role in the Nigeria-Biafra war, especially the food blockade and the shipment of weapons from Britain to the Nigerian troops, Lennon returned his award. "I AM BEGINNING TO BE ASHAMED OF BEING BRITISH," he said as he returned it.
