BIAFRAN MERCENARIES


 ROLF STEINER

Rolf Steiner was a professional soldier of fortune, born in Munich, Bavaria on January 3, 1933. 

During his service as Commander of the 4th Biafran Commando Brigade. 


A famous legionnaire who served in Algeria and Vietnam, Steiner became a Biafran citizen and refused to take pay while leading the 4th Commandos, believing it was a noble cause.

Captain Martin volunteered to fly food/relief material into Biafra during the Biafra Genocide. While trying to land his Lockheed L-1049G Super Constellation on the Uli Airstrip at night, during a tropical storm, he was killed in a crash with his wife, actress Gladys Martin.

MARC GOOSENS

Marc Goosens, was a decorated military man who after his mission in Congo In 1964, came to Biafra in 1968 to help with the cause by training Biafra’s Millitia. He also fought alongside his trainees whenever there was need to. While in Biafra He served under the French Mercenary leader Robert Faulques, where he held the rank of Major. He was killed During an attack on Onitsha by Nigerian soldiers.





DICK TIGER'S PROTEST

 

DICK TIGER PROTESTED BIAFRA GENOCIDE

Dick Tiger returned his OBE (Order of the British Empire) medal to the British government in 1968 in protest of their involvement in the Biafra Genocide (also known as the Biafran War). Dick Tiger, whose real name was Richard Ihetu, was a world champion boxer who held the undisputed middleweight title and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. His protest was a significant act of defiance against the British government's support of the Nigerian government during the conflict.

Dr. Akanu Ibiam returned his Knighthood and renounced his English name, Francis, in protest the British Government’s support of the Nigerian Government during Biafra Genocide in 1968.

JOHN LENNON’S PROTEST

John Lennon (1940–1980) was an English musician, singer, and songwriter. He was also a peace activist who achieved worldwide fame.

JOHN LENNON returned his medal to protest the genocide in Biafra (1969). Lennon was honoured by Queen Elizabeth II in 1965 with the

award of Member of the Order of the British Empire.

1n 1969, as a protest against Britain's role in the Nigeria-Biafra war, especially the food blockade and the shipment of weapons from Britain to the Nigerian troops, Lennon returned his award. "I AM BEGINNING TO BE ASHAMED OF BEING BRITISH," he said as he returned it.

Nnamdi Kanu is a British-Nigerian political activist born on 25th September 1967. He is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who advocates for the Restoration and Independence of Biafra from Nigeria. He is currently detained in one of the Department of State Servicers (DSS) in Nigeria.
